Moles come in various shapes and sizes\u2014they can be raised or flat, dark in color, pink or flesh-toned. They can be present at birth or appear over time.\u00a0 Most moles are harmless<\/strong> and some are even considered attractive\u2014as in a beauty spot\u2014but moles can also be bothersome, especially if they make shaving difficult or because they catch on clothing or jewelry.\u00a0 Mole removal for cosmetic purposes can also enhance appearance and drastically improve a person\u2019s self-esteem.<\/p>\n

What are skin tags?<\/h2>\n

Skin tags (known medically asacrochorda<\/em>) affect about half of the population.\u00a0 They are small, benign skin growths that project from the surrounding skin from a small, narrow stalk.\u00a0 They are soft, hanging pieces of skin that tend to be flesh-toned or slightly darker in color.\u00a0 Typically, a skin tag will grow to about the size of a grain of rice and, in rarer cases, may\u00a0grow to\u00a0the size of a grape.\u00a0 They tend to form in locations where skin rubs against skin or clothing.\u00a0 They are particularly prone to develop at the base of the neck and in the armpits, as well as on the eyelids, groin folds and under the breasts, but they can develop almost anywhere on the body.<\/p>\n

While the actual cause of skin tags is unknown, groups particularly at risk include overweight people (probably because of skin friction), pregnant women and diabetes sufferers. \u00a0Hormonal changes are thought to contribute to skin tag development.\u00a0 Skin tags can occur at any age, but they tend to affect older people more often than adolescents and young adults.\u00a0 Babies and toddlers can also be prone to skin tags, especially if they\u2019re plump.<\/p>\n
